Prof. Dr. Pedro de Sena Murteira Pinheiro
Associate Professor, Federal University of Rio de Janeiro

Biography: Pedro de Sena Murteira Pinheiro is an Assistant Professor at the Institute of Biomedical Sciences of the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro — ICB/UFRJ, a researcher at the Laboratory for Evaluation and Synthesis of Bioactive Substances — LASSBio — and a collaborating faculty member of the Graduate Program in Pharmacology and Medicinal Chemistry — PPGFQM/ICB/UFRJ. Born and raised in Rio de Janeiro, he graduated in Pharmacy from UERJ/ZO in 2015 and built his scientific career at the interface of medicinal chemistry, pharmacology, and molecular modeling. He obtained his M.Sc. (2017) and Ph.D. (2021) from PPGFQM/ICB/UFRJ, developing projects focused on rational drug design, synthesis, molecular modeling, and pharmacological evaluation of new drug candidates. In 2019, he carried out part of his doctoral research at the Università di Bologna, Italy, under the supervision of Professor Maria Laura Bolognesi, an experience that broadened his scientific, personal, and international training. His doctoral thesis was recognized with the Sérgio Henrique Ferreira Award for Best Ph.D. Thesis of the PPGFQM in 2021. As a young researcher, he has been consolidating an academic trajectory marked by scientific productivity, the training of human resources, and participation in national and international collaborative networks. He has published approximately 40 scientific articles in specialized journals, with major contributions in medicinal chemistry, design and synthesis of bioactive compounds, molecular modeling, drug discovery, and the application of artificial intelligence to medicinal chemistry, including approaches based on bioinformatics, chemoinformatics, and structure–activity and structure–property relationship studies.
